LENIER, THE POET OF MUSIC

Composer, musician, are just two of Lenier’s many musical abilities, one of the most popular and virtuous Cuban artists, an exponent of a pop and urban sound of strong vibration.

Álvaro Lenier Mesa was born in Güines, south of Havana, Cuba and on the banks of the Mayabeque River. He always claims to have felt art, and music, although he never received academic training.

When Lenier was 9 or 10 years old, he does not remember exactly, he was part of a Peasant Music team that Alexis Díaz Pimienta formed at the Higher Institute of Art in Cuba. Together with a select group of only 10 children from all over Cuba, Alvarito, as he was told at the time, would manage to stand out and even at age 15 when he emigrated to Miami, he remained involved in the genres of traditional Cuban music; He was also part of the Clave Guajira television program aired on several channels in the United States. In total they were around 10 years of his life dedicated to peasant music.

Lenier has a basic knowledge with the guitar and from an early age was very interested in the instruments. Peasant music helped him write his own songs easily. As he improvised that was easier for him to write even for other artists.Lenier says he learned about music in recording studios, listening to other artists record. Watching and asking he learned to record and now even makes his own songs. Lenier is committed singing to love and he is not afraid to express his most hidden feelings in public.

Lenier emigrated to the United States with 15 years of age with his father and when he arrived in Miami he began to venture into the urban genre, since peasant music did not have much audience.

The young man had to work as a barber to get ahead and collaborated with many radio stations in Colombia, where he had the opportunity to record his first album.

After years of hard work and dedication, Lenier started as a chorister of Jacob Forever.

Perhaps in the best moment of the artist’s career, Lenier accompanied him around the world and lived the success of songs like “El Malecon”. Then he began to compose some of his next hits, such as “La Protagonista”, which Jacob made it a hit with the salsa performer, Víctor Manuelle, later came featurings such as “Que Nochecita” until Lenier finally launched his solo career.

Another of the artists that Lenier has a close relationship with in his career, is with music producer Emilio Estefan, who has said that the güinero is one of his favorite artists.

Lenier also has the support of worldwide superstar Pitbull, who has helped him immensely in his musical projects. They recently premiered at the Latin American Music Awards (Latin AMAS) the new single “Me Quedare Contigo Remix” in collaboration with Pitbull, El Micha, Neyo before an international audience.  “Me Quedare Contigo Remix” reached the top of the charts with various number ones on radio. The song was nominated in Puerto Rico, to the Premios Tu Musica Urbano under collaborations.

Among Lenier’s greatest hits, there are songs like “Mi Corazón”, “Por tu Amor”, “Yo tengo una Guitarra que no suena”, “Una Mujer como Tu”, “Que Nochecita”, “La Buena y El Malo”, “Ya es muy tarde”, “La Nochecita”, “Me Quedaré Contigo”, “Te Toque sin Querer”, “Si Tu No la Llevas”, “Quiereme”, “El Beso”, “Me Extrañaras”, “Pobre Corazon”, “Malos”, “Dejame”, “Me Quedaré Contigo Remix”, “No Volvere”, “Un Monton de Estrellas”, “Como Te Pago”, among others.

Collaborations with Lenier are an important part of his music catalog. Lenier has collaborated with artists such as Pitbull, Neyo, Tito el Bambino, Yandel, Chacal, El Micha, among others.

Throughout his career he has obtained various international nominations and awards. His musical hits have also been recognized with several important recognitions.

LENIER, EL POETA DE LA MÚSICA

Compositor, músico, son solo dos de las múltiples habilidades musicales de Lenier, uno de los artistas cubanos más populares y virtuosos, exponente de una sonoridad pop y urbana de fuerte vibración.

Álvaro Lenier Mesa nació en Güines, al sur de La Habana, Cuba y a las orillas del río Mayabeque. Siempre dice haber sentido el arte, y la música más específicamente, en su cuerpo, aunque nunca recibió formación académica al respecto.

Cuando Lenier tenía 9 o 10 años, no recuerda con exactitud, formó parte de una cátedra de Música Campesina que Alexis Díaz Pimienta conformó en el Instituto Superior de Arte en Cuba. Junto a un selecto grupo de solo 10 niños de toda Cuba, Alvarito, como le decían por aquellos tiempos, lograría destacar e incluso a los 15 años se fue a Miami, pero aún en Estados Unidos siguió metido dentro de los géneros de la música tradicional cubana; incluso formó parte del programa de televisión Clave Guajira emitido en varios canales de Estados Unidos. En total fueron alrededor de 10 años de su vida dedicados a la música campesina.

Lenier tiene un conocimiento básico con la guitarra y desde temprana edad estuvo muy interesado en los instrumentos. La música campesina lo ayudó a escribir sus propias canciones fácilmente. Como el improvisaba eso se le hizo más fácil para escribirle incluso a otros artistas.Lenier comenta que ha conocido de música en los estudios de grabación, escuchando a otros artistas. Observando y preguntando él mismo aprendió a grabar y ahora, incluso, hace las maquetas de sus propios temas. Lenier Mesa apuesta por cantarle al amor y no tiene miedo a expresar sus sentimientos más ocultos en público.

Lenier emigró a Estados Unidos con 15 años junto a su padre y cuando llegó a Miami comenzó a incursionar en el género urbano, ya que la música campesina no tenía mucho público.

El joven tuvo que trabajar como barbero para salir adelante y colaboró con muchas estaciones de radio en Colombia, lugar donde tuvo la oportunidad de grabar su primer disco.

Después de sus años de trabajo como repentista, conocimos a Lenier como corista de Jacob Forever. Quizás en el mejor momento de la carrera del artista, Lenier lo acompañó por el mundo y vivió el éxito de temas como “El malecón”. Luego empezó a componer algunos de sus próximos hits, como “La protagonista”, que Jacob pegaría junto al salsero Víctor Manuelle, más tarde llegaron los featurings como “Qué nochecita”, hasta que Lenier lanzó definitivamente su carrera como solista.

Otro de los artistas que Lenier tiene muy de cerca en su carrera, es el productor musical Emilio Estefan, quien ha llegado a declarar que el güinero es uno de sus artistas favoritos. También Lenier cuenta con el apoyo del artista Pitbull, quien lo ha ayudado inmensamente en sus proyectos musicales. Durante los Latin American Music Awards (Latin AMAS) estrenó el  sencillo “Me Quedaré Contigo Remix” en colaboración con Pitbull, El Micha, Neyo ante un público internacional, el cual llegó a los primeros lugares de las carteleras radiales y de Billboard por su gran aceptación. El tema fue nominado a los PREMIOS TU MÚSICA URBANO en Puerto Rico, como mejor colaboración del año.
